Dr. Allison Higgins Mills is originally from Somerset, KY. The Western Kentucky Pediatric Dentistry logo was designed as a nod to the small community of Acorn where she was born and raised!
Dr. Allison graduated from Pulaski County High School in 2014 and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences at Morehead State University in 2018. She then attended the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry where she earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree in 2022. Dr. Allison was then accepted into a prestigious residency at The Ohio State University/Nationwide Children’s Hospital where she trained an additional two years in pediatric dentistry while obtaining a Master’s of Science degree.
Following graduation from her residency program in 2024, she moved to West Virginia where her husband, Stuart, was in his last year of orthodontics residency. During her time in WV, she worked as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the WVU School of Dentistry and at a private pediatric dental practice. Drs. Stuart and Allison moved back to his hometown of Mayfield in May of 2025 and welcomed their first child, Ida, in August!
In September, Dr. Allison became board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. This multi-step board certification process takes place over several years, requiring successful completion of pediatric dental residency and passing both a written qualifying exam and an oral clinical exam. While obtaining board certification is not a license requirement, it shows a commitment to lifelong learning and proves advanced clinical understanding of treating children, teens, and patients with special healthcare needs.
Dr. Allison has long had a passion for pediatric dentistry, having decided that’s what she wanted to be at just 14 years old. She loves working with children, establishing relationships with her patients’ families, delivering compassionate dental care, and providing oral health education. She is so excited to meet and serve the families in her new home of Western Kentucky!
