Sedation Dentistry

Our team at Western Kentucky Pediatric Dentistry in Mayfield is committed tohelping our patients to feel comfortable and relaxed as much as possible. We understand that many patients struggle with a form of dental anxiety at their appointment. That’s why we are proud to be able to offer options to help relieve any dental anxiety or discomfort when possible, such as sedation options.
When it comes to sedation, our practice offers nitrous oxide to help patients feel calm and comfortable during their appointment. Dr. Allison Higgins Mills will discuss whether nitrous oxide is a good fit for you at your next appointment.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide, otherwise commonly known as “laughing gas,” is the sedation option we offer at our practice. It is a mild gas that the patient will inhale through a comfortable nose mask. This gas will help put you at ease and will provide a relaxing, calming effect during your appointment. One of the main benefits of nitrous oxide is that this wears off very quickly, allowing you to return to your everyday activities without any grogginess.
Our practice offers nitrous oxide as our sedation option, and we do not provide IV sedation or general anesthesia in our office. If a deeper level of sedation is ever needed than nitrous oxide can provide, Dr. Mills will talk with you about what other options may be available.
Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?
At Western Kentucky Pediatric Dentistry, your safety is always our top priority. Nitrous oxide is considered safe for use and has been used for many years in the dental field. You can feel confident knowing that our team is highly trained and experienced in administering nitrous oxide sedation, always keeping your safety and comfort in mind. For your safety and health, we ask that you disclose any current medications or medical issues to us prior to your procedure.
